DOUG The Sagrada Familia on our last day in Barcelona was a fitting end to our trip. The modern style stood in sharp contrast to the many churches we had seen dating back to the Roman Renaissance, making us all feel like experts. The Sagrada Familia is somewhat of a hodge-podge, with different parts designed by different architects and built at different times. Gaudi did live to see a couple of the main towers erected. The front of the church has the four most prominent towers, but work continues and they are still planning to erect the central tower, which will dwarf all the others!
The inside has soaring modern lines and columns, and brightly colored stained glass, and little in the way of statues or representative art work. Recorded choir music was playing. The front of the building on the outside has many scenes from the nativity, and there was a sign with a helpful key which made it fun to follow.
